A Bulawayo gold miner, Hayat Khan, has been jailed to an effective five-year prison term for failing to keep a register of all the gold produced at his mine.

Khan (34) of Bobs Mine was convicted on his own plea for contravening mining regulations when he appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Shepherd Mjanja last Friday.

On March 5 this year, detectives from the Police Minerals Section inspected the mine’s records and failed to locate an updated register of transactions.

The detectives, however, discovered 6,81 grammes of gold valued at $306,50 had not been booked, leading to Khan’s arrest.
