The Reformed Church University (RCU), formerly Great Zimbabwe University, has finally been given the nod to re-open after it was closed in 2007 because its name had clashed with a government university.

Its previous name (Great Zimbabwe) is now being used by the former Masvingo State University.

RCU acting pro-vice chancellor Professor Wiseman Magwa said the Zimbabwe Council of Higher Education (ZIMCHE) last Friday approved their four-degree programmes which will see the institution opening its doors to students in August.

“We have been given approval by ZIMCHE to start offering four degree programmes and we are delighted at the development. We would be recruiting students in August when university semesters commence, ” Magwa said.

“We will be running three faculties, namely Commerce, Education and Theology and Religious Studies. We will be offering four honours degree programmes in Education, Special Needs and Early Childhood Development, Commerce, Human Resources, Labour and Industrial Relations Management.”
