Gweru-based firm Zimbabwe Glass Industries (Zamp-imglass) reportedly failed to reopen as scheduled last Friday amid reports the company’s blast furnaces were still being refurbished.
Zamp-imglass was shut down in September 2010 to allow for the refurbishment after it had secured $7 million from its parent company, the Industrial Development Corporation.
Initially, the glass-manufacturing firm was scheduled to resume operations in April but missed the deadline.
Although Zamp-imglass managing director Jacob Dube had not responded to questions sent to him at the time of going to print, sources said the company might only resume operations end of this month.
“There are still some final touches which are still to be completed before we can resume full operations,” the source said.
“We might be in full production either mid-June or at the end of the month.”

Besides the reconstruction of the furnaces, the company has reportedly invested in other glass-making components as independent section machines, quality inspection machines, refurbishment of the ceramic labelling machines and the refurbishment of the packaging sections.
The refurbishment exercise is expected to cost $5,5 million while $1,2 million is expected to go towards working capital
