CRIME rate in Mbare increased by 0,2% from 7 986 cases last year to 7 999 recorded between January and September this year, police have announced.

Speaking at the Cop of the Month award presentation sponsored by Bakers’ Inn in Harare yesterday, Senior Assistant Commissioner Clement Munoriarwa said the police were concerned about increase in crime cases and called on the corporate world and residents to join hands in the fight against crime.
“The police district is concerned about the increase in cases such as fraud, plain robbery, rape, murder, unlawful entry, assault and is calling upon all the stakeholders to come on board and participate in the fight against crime,” said Munoriarwa in a speech read on his behalf by Superintendent Kezias Karuru.
“Mbare district should continue to carry out crime awareness campaigns through community relations liaison officers and Victim Friendly Unit while other sections intensify foot, cycle and preventive patrols according to the crime trends, in order to minimise cases of plain robberies and unlawful entry into premises which are on the increase,” he said.
Munoriarwa urged people in and around Mbare to desist from violence as the country edges towards elections.
