The elective AGM will be held in Nyanga from June 12 to June 14 .

ZNCC president Oswald Binha said the congress, which comes at when capacity utilisation for the manufacturing sector has plunged to 44% from 57% due to plethora of challenges, would seek to formulate ways of revitalising the sector.

The congress, which runs under the theme: The roadmap to Zimbabwe’s desired future: Defining the possibilities, will according to the chamber focus on reviving economic growth through reforms and governance, regional integration, redefining industry competitiveness as well as assessing the impact of ICT on future economies.

The country which in 2009 registered a positive economic growth rate for the first time in 10 years on the back of several economic reforms is expected to go for general elections later this year marking an end to the current inclusive government. The ZNCC has already said a political solution expected after the polls is key to economic growth.

“Zimbabwe’s rapid Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth and poor business environment appear to be a paradox.

“The country will, therefore, need to fix its internal problems which include a high-risk country profile, dependence upon foreign aid and raw exports and candidly examine its competitiveness,” said Binha.

Among the participants expected are local businesspeople, government officials and from the region. Binha said the chamber was also seeking to adopt some growth strategies adopted by emerging markets.
