THE second edition of Miss Global Zimbabwe beauty pageant which was initially slated for Harare International Conference Centre (HICC) has been moved to the Crowne Plaza.

Report by Winstone Antonio

The pageant was supposed to have been held in April, but after some months of postponement due to in-house issues, the event has been set for July 5.

Running under the theme “Beauty, Tourism and Charity”, the pageant will see a bevy of 15 beauties battling for the crown.

The pageant’s president Tare Munzara confirmed the developments to NewsDay.

“We have come up with a new date and venue for the second edition of Miss Global Zimbabwe and preparations are at an advanced stage as the finalists are already in camp,” Munzara said.

“This year’s winner of the pageant will earn the right to participate in the Miss Global International in Jamaica, while the second best would take part in Miss International finals in Japan.”

Munzara said this year, they had taken their time and put a lot of effort to produce a glamorous event.

“We did not manage to fulfil the vision that we had at the first pageant where we wanted it to be an all-red-carpet event, but we failed to do this. However, this time I promise it’s going to be a different story as we have started preparations earlier than we did previously,” he said.

He said tickets would be available nationwide selling at $20 for ordinary people, while VIP will be going for $50 with VVIP pegged at $100.

The maiden event held at the HICC last year failed to live up to expectations.

It was marred by disorganisation coupled with financial constraints.

Prior to the pageant, models reported that they were subjected to inhuman conditions during their camping period.

On the day of the event, it had to kick off four hours late with a number of guests who included former Miss Zimbabwe Brita Masalethulini leaving the venue in a huff before the opening.

Harare-based Mutsa Mutare is the holder of the crown, while Bulawayo’s Mellissa Chaka and Cynthia Moyo are Miss Heritage and the second princess respectively.

For winning the title, Mutsa went on to represent the country in Jamaica for the world finals where she made it into top 15 out of 50 countries, while Mellisa Chaka, as Miss Heritage, travelled to Johannesburg to battle it out for the global crown.

Miss Global Zimbabwe is an annual tourism and charitable developmental beauty pageant.

It is owned by Miss Global Zimbabwe organisation franchise holders under Miss Global International based in Jamaica.

According to the organisers of the pageant, it is aimed at liberating and empowering the girl child by its well composed course structure and activities for the participants, especially the Queen and her two Princesses.
