PREPARATIONS for the highly-publicised third edition of Miss Universities pageant to be held at Ochi City on October 12 are at an advanced stage.

According to Prominence Makaza, who is part of the organising team, universities around the country have held their preliminary pageants and selected representatives to the national finals.
The models, aged between 18 and 26, square up for the crown under the theme Beauty and Brains.
“As is the norm, the girls are expected to camp for a week at Ochi Safaris from October 4 and they would attend various workshops along with the theme of the pageant,” Makaza said.
“Apart from the modelling extravaganza at the show, musicians like Jah Prayzah, Guspy Warrior, Roki, Shinsoman and Alcem from Masvingo, among others, are billed to perform at the event.”

The winner of the pageant is expected to receive a car, a laptop, scholarship and cash prizes.
Last year, Melissa Shumba from National University of Science and Technology was crowned the winner after shrugging off stiff competition from 23 other contestants from different universities.
Shumba walked away with a Nissan March vehicle, 500kg of mealie-meal, a laptop, $1 000 cash prize and $1 200 scholarship, among many other prizes and hampers.
Chengetai Gunguwo from Midlands State University was voted first princess as well as Miss Personality while Montolo Mohale from the University of Zimbabwe was crowned second princess. Rumbidzai Ngwenya, also from University of Zimbabwe, became Miss Talent.
The pageant is continuing to grow as it has made positive progress in improving the quality of models since its inception in 2010. This year, the winner will again represent the country at Miss Universities Africa.
Top-flight models like Rumbidzai Mudzengerere and Lisa Morgan are some of the successful products of the pageant.
