THE Zimbabwe Schools’ Examination Council (Zimsec) has still not paid examiners for marking last year’s “O” and “A” Level national examinations, almost four months after the exams were written.

The markers who talked to NewsDay yesterday said they had only been paid part of what was due to them.

“The rest of the money was supposed to be paid by end of March, but we only got a small amount, some got around $50 and yet we were expecting around $200,” said one of the markers from Kwekwe.

The markers also accused Zimsec of failing to alert them of changes in payment or even inform them when the full amount would be paid.

Zimsec director Esau Nhandara yesterday said: “It is true that the examiners were partially paid their outstanding fees. For ‘O’ Level the markers were paid 73% while for the ‘A’ Level markers it was 70%.”

Nhandara said they were failing to pay examiners because government had not released the Grade 7 grant.
