ACTRESS Pretty Xaba is still waiting for pledges for her to travel to India for an urgent cancer operation.

Xaba is battling cancer of the oesophagus and her condition was earlier in the week reported to have deteriorated. Yesterday coordinator of the Let’s Help Pretty Xaba Campaign Taona Mafundikwa said they were still waiting for the pledges to come through.

“We had gotten a lot of feedback from the corporate world, but now it seems the pledges are difficult to come through,” said Mafundikwa.

“I am hoping tomorrow (today) we will have the final figures. We had approached NetOne and they had made a commitment, but the point person only returns to the country from Tanzania tomorrow (today). We have also spoken to Econet and we went to Star FM yesterday (Tuesday) where we urged everyone who feels they want to help to come forward and bits and pieces have been flowing into the Ecocash account.

“We are also receiving monies from Standard Chartered Bank Highlands Branch staff in their individual capacities who were touched by her condition when she went there to regularise her account.”

He said they would be able to collate the figures today and see if she could fly out this week.

Mafundikwa said Xaba’s condition had stabilised, but remained critical.

“I do not want to be an alarmist. She has stabilised, but she is really not well. That is why we are pushing people to honour up,” he said.
