OPPOSITION political parties yesterday joined hands in mourning former Mutare mayor and MDC-T Manicaland provincial secretary-general Misheck Kagurabadza (70) who passed away in the eastern border city on Saturday.

MDC-T Manicaland spokesperson Trevor Saruwaka told NewsDay most politicians in Manicaland, including some from Zanu PF, had paid condolences to the Kagurabadza family.
Pishai Muchauraya, spokesperson of the newly-formed Renewal Democrats of Zimbabwe (RDZ), described Kagurabadza as a fatherly figure who embraced all people despite their ideological differences.
“The (RDZ) has learnt with deep sorrow and shock of the untimely death of honourable Misheck Tofamangwana Kagurabadza on Saturday,” he said.
“He is one of the finest politicians to ever emerge from Manicaland province and a darling of many across the various political divide.

“During his days as mayor of Mutare City, he stood with the victims of Murambatsvina when he escorted UN-Habitat executive director Annah Tibaijuka at night to Sakubva to see internally displaced residents.
“And the one thing I liked about him is that he did not hold grudges with anyone.”
Meanwhile, MDC-T provincial chairman David Chimhini said Kagurabadza would be buried at his rural home in Mundenda in the Manica Bridge area on Wednesday.
Kagurabadza played a crucial role in the formative stages of the MDC and was the first elected MDC mayor for Mutare in 2002 and is the former Mutasa South Member of Parliament.
