SUNGURA giant Nicholas Zakaria yesterday said his hands were clean following his failure to perform at Esigodini Jabula Inn night spot last weekend and accused the show organiser of poor planning.

Zakaria told NewsDay yesterday that the show promoter – who had already flighted advertisements — only communicated with him while he was on his way to Botswana as part of Prophetic, Healing and Deliverance Ministries (PHD) founder Walter Magaya’s delegation.

“I was only called while I was in a bus to Botswana for a crusade. As you know, I am part of the praise and worship teams of PHD,” he said.

“These guys (promoters) just featured me on their posters without my consent, only to call me while I was on my way to Botswana. “I don’t know what their agreement with my manager was.”

Zakaria — who has since dropped the title Madzibaba associated with his former apostolic sect – said he would however be available for a performance at Esigodini Jabula next weekend.

Zakaria’s manager, Tapfumanei Pfurumuko, apologised to their fans for the mix-up and admitted that he booked the show before securing the green-light from the Senior Lecturer as Zakaria is affectionately known.

Esigodini Jabula management blamed Zakaria’s camp for bungling as he had not told them that Zakaria was off to Botswana when the booking was made.

His music appeals to people of various age groups and he has remained a force to reckon with in the country’s entertainment scene.

He has mentored several sungura musicians, most of whom have now become household names. These include Alick Macheso.
