Women in Zimbabwe face huge challenges when it comes to access to career development. Over the years the day to day life of young women like that of 21 year old Petronela Nyandoro, who runs a stall in Harare, depicts the deteriorating status of women.
Petronela, in a stable economy, could be studying at university but she has had to shelve her career goals just to put a hot plate on the table.
Petronela’s life is a microcosm of the majority of young women who are failing to continue with their education due to economic deterioration. She has been forced to abandon her education and embark on the informal trading to cater for her basic needs and those of her siblings.
