A CIO, soldier and policeman are languishing in remand prison on charges of soliciting a R6500 bribe from a motorist traveling from South Africa through Beitbridge border post.

Munyaradzi Mupesa (32) of CIO Tsholotsho, Tyron Makati (31) of ZRP Victoria Falls and Trust Mirirayi (45) of the Mechanised Battalion in Darwendale were stationed at Beitbridge border post for a joint operation against border crimes.

They face charges of criminal abuse of office after they demanded a bribe from Martin Severino who was driving a South African registered vehicle with a fake Temporary Import Permit when he was flagged by the trio.

The incident took place on April 7.

After paying the bribe, Severino informed a relative who is also a councillor, Takavingei Mahachi.
