PRESIDENT Emmerson Mnangagwa yesterday extended the COVID-19 level two lockdown announced on September 7 by two more weeks.

Information secretary Ndavaningi Mangwana confirmed the development.

“His Excellency, the President has extended the level two lockdown measures announced on September 7, 2021, by another two weeks, under the same conditions,” Mangwana tweeted.

The extension comes at a time when statistics from the Health ministry show that COVID-19 cases have been going down. However, a new wave of infections has been recorded in schools, particularly in Mberengwa in the Midlands, parts of Matabeleland South and Mashonaland East provinces.

Under level two, intercity travel is permitted, while shops operate from 6am to 7pm, but beerhalls and nightclubs remain closed.
