SPANISH ambassador to Zimbabwe, Santiago Gomez-Acebo, has proposed the introduction of Spanish language lessons in local schools.
Gomez-Acebo yesterday met with Primary and Secondary Education minister Evelyn Ndlovu at her offices in the capital.
“We are trying to upgrade the relationship between Zimbabwe and Spain in the field of primary and secondary education. We believe that the Spanish language is a must for any country in Africa that is willing to develop its economy and think of its future generation,” Gomez-Acebo said.
“Spain is a future market for Zimbabwean products.”
The envoy said currently, over 600 million people in the world speak Spanish as their first language.

He said several e-learning agreements have also been signed with the Primary and Secondary Education ministry to assist the rural areas.
Ndlovu supported the idea, saying the introduction of Spanish lessons in Zimbabwe will capacitate future business people.
She said it was pivotal for children, especially those in rural areas to have access to e-learning and information communication technology.
“We also have an interest in trading with Spanish speaking populations in Latin America. I welcome the ambassador’s proposal that we must introduce Spanish in our schools so that we capacitate our future business people who are going to trade with Spain,” she said.
