Mnangagwa urges Zanu PF to deliver after constitutional amendments

HARARE, Jul. 29 (NewsDay Live) – President Emmerson Mnangagwa on Tuesday said recent constitutional amendments had placed greater trust and responsibility on the ruling Zanu PF, urging the party to accelerate development and improve the livelihoods of Zimbabweans. Addressing the Zanu PF Politburo in Harare on Wednesday, Mnangagwa said the confidence shown in the party must be matched by responsive leadership and effective implementation of government policies. “Through the recent constitutional amendments, the party membership and people have bestowed immense trust upon Zanu PF. It is thus incumbent on us to constantly enhance the manner we execute and dispense our weighty duties in the ever-changing environment,” he said. Mnangagwa said the ruling party must remain committed to serving the people as Zimbabwe advances towards Vision 2030. He said although the Second Republic had recorded economic gains in sectors including mining, manufacturing, tourism and infrastructure, growth should ultimately improve the quality of life for ordinary citizens. “Economic growth, however, is not an end in itself, but should respond to the people’s aspirations for a better life in ways that best speak to them,” he said. The President also said Zimbabwe’s admission to the BRICS New Development Bank would expand access to long-term development financing to support national projects. Mnangagwa urged party and government officials to strengthen engagement with communities and ensure development programmes respond to the needs of every district and province. He said grassroots party structures should play a central role in identifying local priorities and ensuring that “no one and no place is left behind.” The President also called for stronger implementation of resolutions adopted by the ruling party, saying ministries and party organs must work together to translate policy into tangible benefits for citizens. “Every party decision should translate into practical steps that ultimately uplift the livelihoods of our people,” he said. Mnangagwa reaffirmed that unity, peace and stability remained essential to achieving Vision 2030 and urged Zimbabweans to reject divisive narratives while working together to build a modern, industrialised and upper middle-income economy by the end of the decade.
