A CHEEKY Harare thief, who benefited from a presidential amnesty in December last year has been arrested three times for separate cases.

Emmanuel Chinembiri (39) appeared before a Harare magistrate facing theft of an iPhone Pro Max 15 valued at US$1 650.

Chinembiri was released under amnesty in December and, within a week, was arrested for another theft, to which he pleaded guilty before a Mbare magistrate. He was sentenced to community service.

While performing community service, Chinembiri committed another theft and returned to court again. Most recently, he was arrested for stealing yet another iPhone. He was remanded for sentencing today after pleading guilty to the charge.

The court heard that on April 4, police received a report of theft from a motor vehicle belonging to Maskman Dingwizi in Warren Park. Dingwizi tracked his cellphone and showed its last location as Chinembiri’s residence.

The police went to Warren Park 1 shopping centre and established that Chinembiri was seen at the shops selling a cellphone which matched the description supplied by Dingwizi.

Police also gathered that Chinembiri was released from prison in December last year, where he was serving a sentence for unlawful entry.

Armed with that information, they returned to Chinembiri’s residence and picked him up for interview at the station.

It was during the interview that Chinembiri admitted to stealing Dingwizi's cellphone.

He retrieved the cellphone from under a sofa.
