HARARE City Council municipal police have been urged to use force only when necessary, to prevent lawsuits, a senior municipal officer has said.
Acting Harare chief security officer Andrew Manyere made the remarks while addressing officers at the Harare Metropolitan Police Subsection Two (Mbare Section) during their annual master parade at Rufaro Stadium yesterday.
The event was attended by head safety manager Obey Law Moyo, chief operations manager Maxwell Mavhunda, acting superintendent Tawanda Manhando and acting markets head Collen Tongoona.
Speaking to the officers, Manyere stressed the importance of discipline and vigilance.
“Discipline is one of the important issues I want you to continue maintaining. If we do not maintain discipline, then we are not doing well,” he said.
Manyere also emphasised the need for proper documentation.

“We should always strive to have reports and it is very important, whatever you will be doing, you need reports; these are important even in court,” he said.
Manyere further highlighted teamwork and caution in the use of force.
“The use of force — let us be careful when we use force. Let us use it when it is necessary to avoid lawsuits. We need to always be vigilant as police officers.
“We do not want police officers who are always sleeping. Anything you see at the workplace, you are expected to report it.
He commended Manhando for maintaining discipline in Subsection Two in Mbare.
In response, Manhando said the municipal police enjoyed a excellent working relationship with the ZRP.
“Today (yesterday) we have invited an official from the Zimbabwe Republic Police because we enjoy working together here in Mbare and we always share information to improve and maintain peace,” he said.
Also in attendance were Superintendent Chiwanda in Charge of operations ZRP Mbare , Inspector Kanengoni, Inspector Chimusingo ZRP Mbare traffic, Chief Superintendent Bernard Mhiza
Top council officials from municipal police who also attended the meeting were Marian Mverechena from region four and Sarah Mtawa from region one.
