MUTARE, Mar. 11 (NewsDay Live) – Leader of Johanne the Fifth of Africa International Church, Archbishop Andby Makururu has gone on a charm offensive, touring southern Africa to talk about the proposed constitutional amendments in Zimbabwe, claiming they would also benefit the region.
The amendments seek to extend the current term of the President and scrap direct presidential elections, among other sweeping changes.
Makururu was in Mozambique this week, where he met Frelimo leaders at a prayer service and explained to them about Zimbabwe’s Constitutional Amendment Bill No. 3.
The prayer service was attended by thousands of congregants in the neighbouring country, where he commands a huge following.
Makururu said elections have been destabilising the peace enjoyed by countries in the southern African region.
“Zimbabwe is in the mood of Amendment No. 3 Bill, as well as infrastructure development.

“For those who are wasting time in not supporting the Bill, they are wasting their time and they will remain excluded.”“Our duty as a church is to deliver peace, unity and development in the name of the Almighty God and Jesus Christ,” he said.
“The Amendment No. 3 Bill is not benefiting Zimbabwe only, but it is going to benefit the southern African region as a whole because President Emmerson Mnangagwa is going to have more time to develop the country.
“Zanu PF has led the way in the region, so other countries in the region are able to join as well.”
