VILLAGERS in Goromonzi district recently received an early Christmas gift from Prospect Lithium Zimbabwe (PLZ) as part of the company’s community outreach initiatives.

More than 100 elderly and people with disabilities received Christmas gifts from PLZ, a gesture that was hailed by the Goromonzi headman.

“PLZ, we are grateful for what you have demonstrated here today, we hope you will continue with this gesture everywhere. We ask you to help our youth with job opportunities,” Headman Chinyika said.

He thanked the miner for undertaking projects such as road construction.

PLZ ESG director Yu Long said the company was committed to supporting the community through social responsibility programmes.

“The Christmas season is a time for giving, for unity and for remembering the values that bind us together as a community. Today, Prospect Lithium Zimbabwe is humbled to celebrate this spirit of togetherness with the people of Goromonzi as we present food hampers to the elderly and persons with disabilities,” he said.

“Christmas reminds us that compassion is not just a gesture, it is a responsibility. As PLZ, we firmly believe that progress is meaningful only when it

uplifts the communities around us.”

Yu said the company’s presence in Goromonzi was not about mining lithium, but building relationships, supporting local families, and ensuring that “no one is left behind”.

“We are especially mindful that just a few days ago, the world commemorated the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, whose theme for 2025 is Fostering disability-inclusive societies for advancing social progress.”

He said the day encouraged the company to reflect deeply on inclusion, dignity and equal opportunity for persons with disabilities.

“PLZ stands committed to these values. We recognise the daily strength, resilience and contributions of persons with disabilities, and we are determined to continue supporting initiatives that empower them,” Yu said.

Some of the elderly and persons with disabilities who benefited applauded the gesture saying they are grateful for the support provided by the company and urged it to remember

others who are in similar situations.

“I’m happy about the benefits and I’m grateful for the early Christmas gifts from PLZ,” said Matsika, a 32-year-old lady, whose son lives with a disability.

Another beneficiary Leticia Dembedembe, a 74-year-old lady, said she was grateful for the presents given by PLZ as she did not have anyone to turn to since she is left with only one child who is struggling to raise his family with her other children having passed away.

“I’m grateful for the gifts, to me it’s something I’m thankful for because I don’t have someone to support me and my only son is struggling to look after his family and taking care of me as well, some of my children has passed away so I don’t have anyone to rely on,” she said.
