OPPOSITION politician Job Sikhala, whose criminal case was postponed to Wednesday for a further hearing, has been remanded in custody.
Sikhala (53), along with Alexander Thema (78), was arrested on Friday last week after police found explosives in the vehicle the pair was travelling in in Pretoria, South Africa.
According to reports, police received a tip-off about a suspicious Ford Fiesta vehicle during the early hours of Friday morning.
On tracking the vehicle, they discovered 26 blasting cartridges and 15 capped fused connectors.
According to reports, the police are unsure whether the duo was transporting the explosives or intended to use them for another purpose.
Sikhala and his uncle appeared before the Pretoria Magistrates Court facing a charge of possession of explosives.

In a statement, South African National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson Lumka Mahanjana said the State was still uncertain whether it would deny bail, citing ongoing investigations.
“The State is not at liberty to disclose all the evidence at this stage, but we can confirm that the accused was found in possession of the explosives, which is a serious offence,” he said.
The prosecution is expected to provide more details during the next hearing.
