THREE police officers accused of stealing uniforms at their workplace were yesterday remanded out of custody by Harare magistrate Artwell Sanyatwe.

Tabani Bajila (43), Makomborero Dziva (31) and Sadet Cader (37) were granted US$150 bail.

The State alleges that since last year until last Friday, the three took advantage of having access to the storeroom where police uniforms were kept.

The court heard that Cader would be handed the uniforms, which he would later sell and the thee would split the profits.

On October 13, an informant reported the unlawful entry at Police General Headquarters and detectives from CID Suspects Harare pursued the case, where they received information that Sergeant Masceline Chirambadare of ZRP Camp and Hostels, Chitungwiza, was in possession of a satchel containing seven new grey police shirts suspected to have been stolen at ZRP Ordinance Stores.

The detectives approached Chirambadare and established that the satchel was handed over to a workmate, Constable Manyika, by Junior Chihambakwe who was driving a Nissan ADVan on October 16.

The State submitted that Chihambakwe had revealed that on October 14, 2025, he gave transport to two uniformed police officers from town to Chitungwiza New Camp.

Each of them was in possession of a satchel with uniforms and upon disembarking, one of them forgot his satchel.

Investigations revealed that Dziva and Cader were claiming the satchel.

On October 27, 2025, Dziva was picked at his workplace for interviews, and he confirmed giving Cader the recovered uniforms which he was given by Bajila, who is member in charge, in Chitungwiza.

Further investigations revealed that the accused persons stole uniforms at ZRP Ordinance Stores in smaller quantities over a long period of time.

It was also established that after the unlawful entry report, Dziva phoned Cader advising him to remove the shirts from ZRP Harare Central to avoid suspicion and being linked to the thefts.

It is alleged that in his attempts to move the shirts, Cader forgot them in Chihambakwe’s vehicle who had given him a lift, leading to the recovery of seven stolen grey shirts.
