TEN armed robbers pounced on an abattoir in Chiweshe, Mashonaland Central province on Thursday and took off with mobile phones and US$13 409 belonging to eight farmers and two security guards.

Provincial deputy police spokesperson Sergeant Major Samuel Chikasha confirmed the incident.

“I can confirm an armed robbery case in Chiweshe where 10 masked robbers armed with pistols robbed farmers and the abattoir of money amounting to US$13 409 and nothing was recovered,” Chikasha said.

The robbers pounced on the abattoir around 3am on Thursday, threatened security guards and farmers present with pistols and machetes.

They searched the farmers, stole their cash, tied them with shoelaces before fleeing.

Police urged business owners to upgrade their security.
