A FAMILY in Goromonzi, Mashonaland East province, has sent an SOS seeking material and financial support to sustain their orphanage which houses 28 inmates, some as young as two years.

In an interview, Full Gospel Church of God pastor Diamond Sikiyana  (83) said the harsh economic climate had pushed the orphanage to the brink.

“We look after 28 orphans mainly from child-headed families. We are asking well-wishers who can assist in building dormitories so that we can accommodate more children,” Sikiyana said.

He said the orphanage was surviving on food handouts from well-wishers.

Sikiyana’s wife Chiwoniso said: “I want all these children to learn and excel. They have a right to education like any other children and we need help in sourcing learning materials, school uniforms, warm clothes and food.”

Betty Samkange, a teacher at Twin Rivers Primary School yesterday donated 100 sanitary pads to the orphanage.
