BY AGATHA CHUMA CANOE Modelling Agency will this Saturday host the grand finale for Miss Africa Unite Zimbabwe at Milan Family Restaurant in Gweru, a pageant to select models who can represents Africa and exhibit African culture internationally.

Canoe founder and pageant national director, Reginald Tafara Muguto told NewsDay Life & Style that they are ready to crown a queen who represents the nation.

“The pageant is looking for a person who can sell the brand Zimbabwe internationally,” he said.

“We are not only looking at beauty, but we will also consider confidence, ability to speak, intelligence and stage presentation. Models will also be judged on different categories including swimwear, national costume, avant-garde, evening wear and talent.

“Our models (10 girls) are from different places Hwange, Bulawayo, Gweru, Masvingo and Harare and they are aged from 18 to 25.”

The 10 models will first go for a boot camp in Gweru where they will be groomed before contesting for the official crown. The winner of the pageant, themed My Africa My Pride will then represent Zimbabwe in Botswana this November.

Muguto is expecting a number of people to attend the event after inviting renowned models such as reigning Miss Supranational, Miss Zimbabwe Grand, Miss Culture models and The Live Band Motive Dazzling Stars from Botswana.

“My desire to see a change in the modelling industry and to make people change their perspective towards the modelling industry made me come up with this pageant. I realised that modelling in Zimbabwe is somehow not supported and talented models are not given the opportunity to showcase their talents hence we are giving them a platform to show their skills on stage,” he added.
