SCOTT Vincent says having his American wife Kelsey as his caddie has been a major factor in his recent fine form as he closes in on his second win on the Japan Golf Tour.

The talented Zimbabwean golfer continued his brilliant run of good form after carding a solid third round score of 69 yesterday to take a one stroke lead into the final round of the KBC Augusta at Keya Golf Club in Fukuoka Prefecture, Japan.

Playing on the same golf course where he claimed his maiden win in Japan, two years ago, Vincent made  five birdies against two bogeys in his solid third round score which gives him a total of 13-under par 203, a shot ahead of Japan’s Atomu Shigenaga.

Vincent, who is affectionately known as “Mhondoro” has won before on the Keya Golf Club layout after clinching the Landic Challenge on the Japan Golf Tour’s developmental circuit, the Abema TV Tour back in 2019.

His lovely wife Kelsey caddied for him during that breakthrough win and she is on his bag this time around.

Vincent said his wife, who was also beside him during his impressive show at the recent Tokyo Olympic Games has been going out of her way to ensure he is in his best form.

“She is the best wife in the whole world and also world’s No.1 caddy,” Vincent said of his wife’s influence after yesterday’s third round.

“She always prepares me very well, so that I am in a positive mental state towards the next shot. I really appreciate her for her support. No matter what the outcome tomorrow, I know it will still be another good memory for us and the experience will give us power to move on.”

Scott and Kelsey met during the Zimbabwean professional golfer’s time at Virginia Tech in the US where he was on a golf scholarship while she was part of the university’s women’s soccer team.

After tying the knot in October 2017, the couple decided that she would try caddying for him in some tournaments on the Asian Tour.

They enjoyed instant success in their first tournament together as Vincent finished third at the Indonesian Masters and the pair have travelled around the world for tournaments together ever since.

Now they have a chance of winning what would be Vincent’s biggest victory since turning professional in KBC Augusta tournament, which is one of the biggest events on the Japan Golf Tour.
