BLACK Opal Face of Zimbabwe (Bofoz) beauty pageant will this year honour the winner — who will pocket $8 000 among other prizes — and lucky customers, who stand a chance to drive away in a Toyota IST at the grand finale set for September 17 at Glamis Stadium in Harare.

Pageant spokesperson Tanaka Ngororo told NewsDay yesterday that several participants in the voting process will also bag monthly prizes from Black Opal Zimbabwe partners and sponsors ahead of the grand finale to be held under the theme: Define your Beauty.

“At this year’s edition of Black Opal Face of Zimbabwe, apart from rewarding the queen, we also want to give back to our customers, with a lucky SMS voter winning a Toyota IST to be drawn at the grand finale with several others also standing a chance to win big,” he said.

Ngororo said the overall winner, apart from the cash prize, will walk away with a year’s supply of Black Opal skincare and colour cosmetics, while the second and third prizes will get six months and three months’ supply of Black Opal products, respectively.

Ngororo said they had since officially launched the SMS voting campaign for the 11 finalists, who have qualified through six preliminary rounds and have already undergone a gruelling two-day boot camp in Ruwa.

He said the competition will run until September 13.

“Our SMS voting has opened since the final winner’s score will be an aggregate of the 50% SMS votes and 50% judges’ score at the grand finale. The voting criteria has been amended, as the cost per SMS vote has been reduced from 30 cents to 20 cents so as to allow more nationwide participation,” he said.

Unlike other beauty pageants, the Bofoz pageant accommodates married, curvy, tall and short participants, as the organisers are mainly targeting facial beauty and knowledge of Black Opal products.

Jamaican musician, Romain Virgo will share the stage with Jah Prayzah, beat boxer, Pro Beatz, dancehall artistes, Dobba Don, Soul Jah Love and Freeman, while Judgement Yard, Gary B and Templeman will be on the turntables at the grande finale.
