Prominent Guruve stone sculpture Jackie Jonas, who died on Wednesday at his rural home in Mudindo after succumbing to tuberculosis, was buried on Friday last week.

He was 45.
Jonas, who had separated from his wife, was under the care of his friend, Lawrence Matambanadzo, during his sickness.
Guruve South legislator Patrick Dutiro confirmed Jonas’ death and said the community had been robbed of a prominent artist, who raised the Zimbabwean flag high through sculpting.
“We have been robbed of a prominent sculptor, who raised the country’s flag high through arts. He toured several countries and many foreigners visited Guruve to buy his pieces and brought foreign currency to the country,” he said.

The sculptor was buried at his homestead and the burial was attended by fellow sculptors, mainly from Tengenenge Arts Centre in Guruve and Pamvura Arts Centre in Mvurwi.
At the peak of his sculpting career, Jonas toured several countries, including Switzerland, Belgium, Germany and France, where he held exhibitions and showcased his talent.
He is survived by two children.
