The world’s number one beverage company, Coca-Cola, will celebrate 125 years of existence at the Harare International Festival of the Arts (Hifa) Saturday.

Mona Karingi, Coca-Cola brand manager said Coca-Cola would kick-start the anniversary celebrations at Hifa in order to localise the global celebrations by giving Zimbabweans a chance to celebrate with the rest of the world.

“Since 1886, Coca-Cola has brought the world together through its message of happiness and optimism. There is no better way to celebrate our Zimbabwean consumers than to bring them together through Hifa, a culturally relevant yet eclectic platform that gives us a unique way to say thank you,” said Sherree Shereni, Coca-Cola Central Africa’s public affairs and communications manager.

Coca-Cola is the festival’s platinum sponsor and the brand will host three shows in the main arena to entertain and appreciate consumers.

The Coca-Cola Day shows will start with Winky D, the chart-topping youthful dancehall artist who has taken Zimbabwe by storm. The artist, who is not new to Hifa, also mesmerised the youth at the much-publicised Coca-Cola “Mafaro Chete” concert in February.

The artist promised more excitement at this year’s Hifa.

“Look out for even more exciting ways to “Open Happiness” as we celebrate Coca-Cola’s birthday,” he said.

The international festival will also see Coca-Cola present Nneka, winner of the Nobel Peace Prize for best African act in 2010. In addition, the New York-based South African band, Black Jacks will also grace Coca-Cola Day.

The group performed at the historic 2010 Fifa World Cup, energising the crowd with their rendition of African rock music that is so unique and refreshing.

Coca-Cola, the world’s most valuable brand, will also crown its celebrations by cutting and sharing a symbolic birthday cake at the festival to celebrate 63 years of “Open Happiness” and refreshment since the first Coca-Cola was sold in Zimbabwe in December 1948.
