GRACEFUL, ambitious and purpose-driven, Ruvimbo Tafadzwa Njomboro is redefining modern pageantry beyond the runway lights and glamorous gowns.

From the dusty streets of Hwange to representing Zimbabwe on the global stage at Miss Cosmo 2024, the rising beauty queen is using her voice, influence and growing platform to inspire young girls from marginalised communities to dream big and believe in their potential.

For Njomboro, beauty pageantry is about more than crowns, catwalks and cameras. It is a platform for purpose, advocacy and empowerment.

Njomboro believes that growing up in a marginalised community shaped her resilience, determination and outlook on life.

“Growing up in Hwange taught me the importance of hard work, perseverance and believing in possibilities beyond one’s environment,” she told NewsDay Life & Style.

The model and beauty queen said her passion for pageantry was inspired by the power of representation and storytelling.

“I realised that modelling and beauty pageants are not only about appearance, but also about confidence, leadership and using one’s voice to inspire others,” she said.

Njomboro’s journey from local modelling platforms to the international stage reached a defining moment when she represented Zimbabwe at Miss Cosmo 2024, where she finished among the top 10 finalists.

She described the achievement as both emotional and validating.

“It symbolised how far I had come, not only for myself, but for every young girl who dares to dream beyond her circumstances,” she said.

The achievement, she added, also reflected Zimbabwe’s growing influence in international pageantry.

“For Zimbabwe, I believe it was a proud moment that showcased the beauty, intelligence and potential our country has to offer globally.”

Beyond pageantry, Njomboro is focused on community upliftment through the Ruvimbo Njomboro Foundation, an initiative aimed at empowering children and young people through education, mentorship and skills development.

The computational economics student works as an event host and brand consultant, balancing academics with philanthropy and media engagements.

Njomboro said one of the biggest challenges in the modelling industry was limited opportunities available to young women from small communities.

“There were moments of self-doubt and pressure, but I overcame them through discipline, continuous self-improvement and staying grounded in my purpose,” she said.

With growing public support and increasing recognition within Zimbabwe’s beauty industry, Njomboro admitted that competing for Miss Universe Zimbabwe remains one of her long-term ambitions.

“Representing Zimbabwe at Miss Universe is definitely part of my vision and something I would be honoured to pursue,” she said.

For Njomboro, the role of a modern beauty queen extends far beyond physical appearance.

“A modern beauty queen should embody confidence, intelligence, authenticity, compassion and purpose. Representation today is about leadership and inspiring positive change,” she said.

One of her most memorable outreach initiatives was a recent visit to her former school, St James Girls High School in Nyamandlovu, alongside fellow queens Selma Mutenda and Amanda Peresu.

During the visit, they engaged students on issues including menstrual hygiene, self-confidence, leadership, education and career guidance.

“What touched me most was realising that many young girls are not lacking potential — they simply lack exposure, mentorship and people who remind them that greatness can come from where they come from too,” she said.

Outside modelling, Njomboro is passionate about ministry work, mentorship, travelling, fashion and youth empowerment.

Looking ahead, she hopes to grow into a stronger global brand in pageantry, media and philanthropy while expanding the reach of her foundation across Zimbabwe and beyond.

“I want young girls to know that their background should never limit their dreams. Their story matters, and their dreams are valid,” she said.
