SEVENTH-DAY Adventist acapella gospel group Firm Faith Zimbabwe will host a mega concert on May 30 at the Hippodrome in Braeside, Harare, to celebrate 20 years in gospel music ministry.

To mark the milestone, the group will share the stage with Reality 7 from South Africa, Rudo Accappella from Zambia and Zimbabwe’s own Shower Power.

Group director Marshall Matsilele said preparations were at an advanced stage and a full-house was expected.

“This will be one Firm Faith concert that every a capella music lover across denominations should not miss,” Matsilele said.

“We will also have surprise acts. We promise fans a night filled with joy, praise and worship.”

Response on social media has been overwhelming and Matsilele fears the venue may be too small.

The group usually hosts concerts at 7 Arts Theatre in Avondale, Harare, with past album launches selling out.

“For our 20th anniversary, we opted for a bigger venue, but with this response I’m worried it might be small again,” he said.

“Fans should secure tickets early.”

Last year, Firm Faith hosted sold-out concerts in Lusaka (Zambia), South Africa and Zimbabwe while launching its ninth album titled Munesimba.

It is eyeing Mozambique and Angola as next stages for regional tours.

“We are grateful that Firm Faith is turning 20. We have come this far by faith,” Matsilele said.

He recalled early resistance in conservative church circles.

“We were called names and some wanted us chased out of the church.

“We were humiliated, but we never turned back because this is a ministry.”

Matsilele said their music gave hope and healed.

“When we started, none of us was employed, yet we honoured every invitation — churches, weddings, hospitals, funerals.

“We never cancelled a programme because of money.”

Today, members include doctors, accountants, entrepreneurs and bankers.

“Remove God from Firm Faith and it will not last a minute,” Matsilele said.

A defining moment came in 2011 when Firm Faith won Harare Got Talent.

“It humbled us and showed our music is acceptable everywhere,” he concluded.

Firm Faith was formed in the early 2000s by students from Nyazura Mission, honouring a capella’s roots in black oral tradition while shaping a uniquely Zimbabwean sound.
