RUMBIDZAI Mudzingwa’s AuthenticakeZw is now a standalone brand after having being an appendage of Authentic Media Events, a company owned by her husband Simbarashe Mudzingwa.
From the humble beginnings of silent admiration of the Cake Bosson TLC, she fell in love with the beauty of cakes and eventually pursued cake making as a profession and now, we celebrate a journey of sweet success.
Popularly known as Chef Rumbi (CR), Mudzingwa told NewsDay Life & Style (ND) that besides providing catering services at corporate functions, family events and concerts, she also specialises in wedding cakes.
She said God the Lifter of Man (GTLOM) event was the most memorable and unique event where she provided cake services.
Beyond the artistry of creating a beautiful dessert, cakes have a profound impact on our psychology.

Their intricate layers and smooth texture can bring about feelings of nostalgia, happiness and even relaxation.
With the right balance of ingredients, cakes also offer surprising nutritional benefits.
The healthy fats in butter, the protein in eggs and the vitamins in certain fruits can make indulging in a slice not just a treat for the senses, but a nourishing experience.
“This is our second year supplying snacks for their VIPs and VVIPs,” she said.
“Having great names in the gospel industry eating what we prepare is an honour and more than a blessing in itself.
“Being authentic and offering rich flavours as well as being able to adapt to the shifts happening around us has kept our heads above water.”
In response to a dynamic market, Chef Rumbi now includes sculptural designs on her cakes that are more interactive and add an elegant touch to the product. She noted that couples now prefer clean cakes that are visually distinct .
ND: The recent snack box supply for the VIPs at the God Lifter of Man Gospel Concert sounds exciting. How did that collaboration come about and what was the experience like for you and your team?
CR: One name, Dionne Chivandire, an amazing event coordinater who happens to be part of the organising committee of the GTLOM, approached me to serve our baking products and just believed that we will be the perfect people for the event.
Our service last year was above standard and well-received and we are glad to be associated with GTLOM.
The experience has groomed us to master how to handle big numbers and being able to deliver a good service under pressure without compromising quality.
ND: As someone who works alongside your husband, Ishmael, who runs Authentik Media Hub, how do you balance your professional and personal lives while managing two businesses?
CR: Being able to tell the difference between our personal relationship and our business relationship.
Having to also support each others dreams and being there for each other at every call makes a huge difference in knowing that the other half is there through thick and thin.
ND: How do you stay inspired and continue to innovate in the highly competitive food and event industry? Do you have any creative or personal sources of inspiration?
CR: Diving into the social media world which keeps us on track with new trends.
Allowing ourselves to go under other inspirational people in the industry and learning from them has uplifted us in many ways.
We are looking forward to the AuthenticakeZw brand growing and owning a bigger space to work from.
Most likely, seeing ourselves with a walk-in shop that enables our products to be available to all and sundry at any given time.
