HWANGE coach Nation Dube can sleep easy this week after his charges finally picked up maximum points in nine attempts when they beat Flame Lily at the Colliery Stadium.

Going into the match with six draws and two losses, Hwange were already in the relegation zone, but its amazing what three points can do as they moved to 11th place, just one behind FC Platinum who lost 1-0 to Dynamos yesterday.

But it took 55 minutes for the opener to come for Hwange as Aleck Marime hammered home Innocent Macheneka’s cross was.

Four minutes later, Gilbert Zulu’s header following a timely cross from Pritchard Mpelele sealed the visitors’ fate as goalie Prosper Chigumba reacted slowly, giving the coal miners their second goal.

Hwange, who missed four of their regular players due to suspensions, and injuries, among them Evans Rusike, Munyaradzi Mungadze, Nkosana Siwela and Gerald Ndlovu, had to ensure that their vow of a much-needed win was fulfilled.

An elated Chenjerai Dube, Hwange’s assistant coach, said his boys had played according to instructions.

“The boys played very well. We were after a win and we got it. I’m confident this is the beginning of great things for Hwange,” Dube said.
Conceding defeat, Flame Lily coach Nesbert Saruchera said his boys were still learning the ropes from a better side.

“We played well as we are a young team and this was a learning curve for us considering that we were playing with a better side,” Saruchera said after seeing his charges lose their second match in a row following a 3-0 drubbing by Highlanders in Harare in midweek.
