Zimdancehall musician Seh Calaz, born Tawanda Mumanyi, has postponed his scheduled performance in South Africa over safety concerns amid ongoing unrest affecting many Zimbabweans living in the country.
The artist was due to perform in Kempton Park on August 1, but event organisers, Young Empire Entertainment, announced that the show had been postponed until conditions improved.
In a statement, the promoters said the decision was taken to safeguard both the artist and his supporters.
"The safety of our guest artist, Calaz, is our priority, as is the safety of our supporters,” they wrote.
“We will announce new dates once the situation improves."
Seh Calaz's manager, Lawrence Rimai, said the team had chosen to put the welfare of the musician and his fans first.
He said it would be inappropriate to stage an entertainment event while many Zimbabweans in South Africa are facing displacement and hardship because of the current unrest.
"There is no sense in holding a show when many Zimbabweans in South Africa are displaced or struggling because of the current situation," Rimai said.
"Entertainment comes after livelihoods. We stand in solidarity with all Zimbabweans living in South Africa and will announce a new date once the situation has stabilised."
The postponement comes just days after veteran musician Alick Macheso also missed a scheduled performance in Limpopo, underlining the growing impact of the unrest on Zimbabwean artists' engagements in South Africa.
Organisers have assured fans that a new date will be announced once it is safe for the event to proceed.
