Old Mutual Funeral Services has expanded its national footprint with the opening of a funeral parlour in Gweru, extending its integrated funeral services network into Zimbabwe's Midlands Province.

The Gweru facility becomes the company's eighth branch, joining operations in Harare, Mutare, Masvingo, Chiredzi, Karoi and two locations in Bulawayo.

Located at the junction of Zimbabwe's major transport corridors, Gweru serves as a commercial hub for the Midlands and surrounding provinces. Old Mutual said the new branch would improve access to funeral services for families across the region.

Old Mutual Life Assurance Company Managing Director Rutendo Magorimbo said the expansion forms part of the group's strategy to build a nationwide funeral services network.

"Gweru is an important commercial and community centre. Establishing a presence here strengthens our ability to serve families across the Midlands while delivering the quality, dignity and professionalism associated with the Old Mutual brand," she said.

Old Mutual Funeral Services was established to complement the group's Flexi Funeral Plan by providing end-to-end funeral support alongside funeral insurance.

The Gweru branch will offer services including collection and transportation of the deceased, funeral parlour facilities, repatriation, water bowsers, family courtesy vehicles and nationwide bus transport.

Customers can choose from Lite, Classic, Premium and Supreme funeral packages, with optional benefits such as grocery assistance, income stabilisation, tombstone cover, memorial service cover and transport services.

Old Mutual said the investment would also create employment opportunities and support local suppliers as part of its broader commitment to community development.

The Gweru opening marks the latest phase of the company's expansion strategy as it seeks to broaden access to funeral services across Zimbabwe.
