Chahwanda Stadium, Premier Soccer League’s newcomers Hardrock FC's home ground, has undergone its first Caf inspection as construction of the state-of-the-art facility nears completion, just two weeks before the 2026 season kicks off.
Caf stadiums inspector Aloys Mpambara of Rwanda was in Kwekwe on Saturday to inspect Chahwanda Stadium and was impressed by the venue and facility.
The news will come as a major boost to the Kelvin Kaindu-coached side as they prepare for their maiden PSL season.
Since its inception, there has always been confidence that Chahwanda Stadium will meet Caf's minimum standards, especially since it's set to be officially opened by President Emmerson Mnangagwa on February 28.
While Mpambara couldn't comment on the preliminary inspection, which took over four hours, Chahwanda Trust and Hardrock FC board member Charles Chahwanda was pleased with the process.
Chahwanda highlighted that the media area remain the only grey area as they put final touches to the beautiful facility, which is expected to host international matches at club and national team level.
"We had a Caf inspector here from Rwanda. He's primarily here to make some checks in preparation for the final inspection. What he's basically doing here is checking on the progress that we've done and also helping us to align our finishing up with the Caf standards," he said.
"We are indeed quite happy. He highlighted a few areas that we were already looking at. Most of the work here has been done. It's those small areas, especially the media areas, that he was trying to get some clarification on. All is well.
"And we've been made even happier by the comments we got from these guys. They're appreciating the progress we're making," Chahwanda said.
