ZIMBABWEAN rugby is revving up for a historic return to the global stage, thanks to a landmark partnership with premier automotive company CFAO Mobility Zimbabwe.
The company has officially signed on as the mobility partner for the national rugby team, the Sables, providing critical logistical support as the squad prepares for its first Rugby World Cup appearance in 36 years.
The collaboration was unveiled during a ceremony at the iconic Harare Sports Club on Tuesday, underscoring the growing corporate recognition of Zimbabwe’s rugby renaissance.
The Sables’ qualification for the World Cup has reignited nationwide passion for the sport, transforming the team into a symbol of resilience, determination, and national pride.
As part of the initial rollout, CFAO Mobility presented three brand-new vehicles to the Sables’ technical and administrative leadership.
Head coach Pieter Benade received a robust Toyota Hilux, renowned for durability and ideal for the demanding travel involved in national coaching duties.
Assistant coach Ricky Chirengende and Zimbabwe Rugby Union (ZRU) general manager Takunda Chifokoyo were each handed a versatile Suzuki Jimny, vehicles designed to support scouting, strategy, and operational needs.
Beyond supplying transportation for leadership, CFAO Mobility will manage all domestic travel logistics for the team. The partnership also has potential to expand internationally, leveraging CFAO’s network to assist the Sables during away fixtures across Africa and beyond.

For Benade, mobility is a critical enabler.
“In our sport, being mobile is extremely important. Transport and access to venues are often major barriers. Having a partner such as CFAO is a game changer,” he said.
“It allows us to reach areas we couldn’t before and opens a positive new chapter for Zimbabwe rugby.”
Benade also called on the corporate sector to support the team further, particularly regarding player welfare, accommodation, and professional fees.
“CFAO are leading the way… we hope this demonstrates that we are an institution worth partnering with,” he added.
Chifokoyo expressed gratitude for the support, noting that the Sables’ blend of raw talent and strategic intensity aligns with CFAO’s brand values of movement and reliability.
“This is the type of long-term partnership we look for,” he said, “and it sets the tone for the journey to the World Cup and beyond.”
The Sables’ competitive calendar is already demanding. Their first major test comes in July at the Nations Cup, facing strong sides, including Tonga, the US and Canada.
With CFAO Mobility handling logistics, the team can focus on refining tactics, strengthening cohesion, and representing Zimbabwe with pride.
CFAO Mobility, formed through the strategic merger of Toyota Zimbabwe and CFAO Motors, now distributes Toyota, Hino, Volkswagen, and Suzuki vehicles. The company‘s managing director Carl Varga expressed pride in supporting a team that has become a beacon of national hope.
“The Sables are going places — literally and figuratively — and we are proud to be part of their journey to the World Cup,” he said.
As Zimbabwean rugby prepares to take on the world, CFAO Mobility’s partnership ensures the Sables have the wheels, support, and momentum to match their historic ambition.
