TRIATHLON Zimbabwe pair of Callum Smith and Rohnan Nicholson bade farewell to their current junior age group in style, winning silver and bronze medal respectively in the U15 Youth Category of the Africa Championships in Hurghada, Egypt yesterday.

Smith got home the second fastest boy for his silver, about 50 meters in front of Nicholson. The gold medal went to South Africa.

Earlier on Friday, Nicholson claimed the bronze medal in the Youth Triathlon U15 event finishing in a time of 33 minutes 18 seconds while Smith came in seventh place in 00:34:34.

The race was won by South African Nicholas Horne who clocked 00:31:21 while Ziad Bouchikha of Morocco came second in a time of 00:32:50.

TZ head coach, Pam Fulton who prior to the Youth Africa Championships spoke highly of the duo's work ethic in the build up to the race was happy with the boys becoming men and eagerly waits to see their transition into the next phase.

“Their results were very good and I’m very pleased with their performance,” Fulton told Standardsport.

“They both now move up into the U17 sprint distance, double the distance to what they are used to, so it will be interesting to see how they perform in the longer distance.”
