TELECOMMUNICATIONS company, TelOne, has launched its latest innovation towards smart cities through vehicle tracking and planting cameras on the streets.
Speaking to journalists during a media tour in Bulawayo recently, TelOne commercial director Maureen Chirambaguhwa said the system was able to track corporate vehicles as well as individual fleets.
She said the system could also be used for fuel management on corporate vehicles.
“We are able to see what’s happening in terms of security. We also have fuel management on our platform which can help to detect if fuel is being siphoned,” Chirambaguhwa said.
She said the system could also record events in cases of accidents.
“We can even tell what cargo is being transported by your suppliers. You can monitor your drivers on the road and in case of an accident everything can be recorded,” the executive said.
Information Communication Technology, Postal and Courier Services minister Tatenda Mavetera last month applauded TelOne for its innovation while touring the telecommunications company’s stand at the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair (ZITF).
“We really want to thank TelOne in that it has followed suit in terms of innovation because it is the way to go. We are in a digital economy which needs us to think outside the box and be in line with what our President is saying.

“We need to modernise things, I saw the cameras they planted on the streets of Harare and that is now coming to Bulawayo. We are saying this is the way to go. We need to connect and with the thrust that TelOne has and I believe there is more that can be done,” she said.
