ZANU PF ward 20 councillor Mtshiso Ngwenya has accused Tsholotsho Rural District Council of failing to grant them a hunting permit ahead of next week’s Independence Day celebrations.

Ngwenya told Southern Eye that the local authority used to grant them the permit as they killed wild animals for relish during the celebrations.

“It was a norm that council used to issue us with hunting permits; we would look for a professional hunter who would kill either a kudu or impala for relish. But this year is different, we are still seeking for the permit,’’ Ngwenya said

The councillor accused acting chief executive officer Mbonisi Ncube and council chairperson Ruphas Ndlovu for blocking the issuance of the permit.

Ncube, however, rubbished the allegations and said that permits are not given to individuals but to professional hunters.

“Those who have requested permits have been given. The permits are given to professional hunters. We cherish independence celebrations but we work according to statutes. We always give permits to hunt for animals like impala, kudu or elephant depending on what would be there for that time,’’ Ncube said.
