CELEBRATED filmmaker, director and producer Femi Odugbemi has been bestowed with the honour to be the head judge for the forthcoming edition of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards.
Apart from his filmmaking exploits, Odugbemi is also the pioneer academy director of the MultiChoice Talent Factory in Lagos, Nigeria.
The 10th edition of the prestigious annual awards will be hosted on May 10 and 11 live on all Africa Magic channels.
The Africa Magic Viewer’s Choice Awards are presented by MultiChoice to recognise outstanding achievements in film and television production in Africa.
MultiChoice Zimbabwe head corporate affairs and public relations Charity Njanji said the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards concept has established itself as the benchmark for excellence in the African film industry.
“The two-day awards event will open with the Young Filmmakers and Content Creators event on the morning of May 10, followed by the Cultural Day and Opening Night celebration with the main awards ceremony the next day,” Njanji indicated.
“The Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards are popular and widely followed across Africa, including here in Zimbabwe. We are pleased that the plans to stage the latest edition of the awards which promises another tribute to the talent in the world of film across the continent are progressing well and are at an advanced stage.”
She described the choice of Odugbemi to lead the awards’ jury as good news because it reaffirms the high standing and major contribution of the MultiChoice Talent Factory initiative.

“Each awards event is not only a celebration of excellence in filmmaking, but also an activity that improved careers and boosts talent development on the continent,” she noted.
“The awards entries have been received from across Africa and shortlisting has already started and soon the judging phases commences.”
Odugbemi believes the awards are a celebration of “an unwavering dedication to excellence”.
He promised that the jury would be steadfast in ensuring that only the most outstanding works earned a spot on the nomination list.
Njanji said changes have been made to the award categories, with winners of the Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actor and Best Supporting Actress categories now determined by the jury.
“The organisers and sponsors of the awards are Amstel, Pepsi, and Prom, and the Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards is an annual set of accolades presented by MultiChoice to recognise outstanding achievements in film and television production in Africa ... This will be done live across all Africa Magic channels at 8pm on Sunday March 24, immediately after which the voting portal will open,” she added.
