The 2024 edition of the Old Mutual High Schools Quiz is set to kick off this week across the country, with thousands of schools taking part.

In a celebration of knowledge, talent, and the spirit of competition, the highly anticipated National High School Quiz, sponsored by Old Mutual in partnership with the Book of African Records, is set to captivate audiences once again in its annual extravaganza. As the longest-running quiz competition for schools in the country, this prestigious event goes beyond a mere contest. It is a platform that nurtures talent, prepares future leaders, and creates a lasting impact on our society.

For over a decade, Old Mutual has been promoting education and providing a knowledge-sharing platform for young minds through the National High School Quiz. This is a representation of the financial giant’s commitment to fostering academic excellence and intellectual growth among Zimbabwe's youth.

With a focus on inclusivity, this year's event aims to increase the number of participating schools from all corners of Zimbabwe, ensuring that every student has an opportunity to participate and shine on the national stage.

"We are proud to sponsor the National High School Quiz, as it serves as a powerful catalyst for knowledge and learning. By providing a platform for students to showcase their general knowledge skills, we are investing in the future of our nation,” said Lillian Mbayiwa, Old Mutual Group Marketing, Public Affairs and Sustainability executive. "

The partnership between Old Mutual and the Book of African Records has played a vital role in fostering the growth of young minds through Afro-centric-based quiz competitions. By exploring the rich history of Africa and delving into its geography, current affairs, science, architecture, and technology, the quiz not only tests students' general knowledge but also broadens their horizons, instilling a deep appreciation for their heritage.

The impact of the Old Mutual National High School Quiz extends far beyond the competition itself. In previous years, finalists were treated to a two-day program filled with educational experiences, including financial education through the 'On the Money' program, motivational talks from Old Mutual leadership, visits to significant sites such as the Mutual Garden Solar Farm, and explorations of the Museum of African Liberation.

These immersive activities aim to inspire and empower the participants, encouraging them to become the leaders of tomorrow.

Reflecting on the success of the previous editions, Book of African Records acting chief executive, Tyson Mudarikiri said: "The National High School Quiz is a testament to the talent and potential that exists within our youth. It is a platform that unifies students from diverse backgrounds, encouraging them to strive for academic excellence and become well-rounded individuals."

The highly anticipated provincial tournaments of the high school quiz are just around the corner, with the countdown underway. In this thrilling competition, the top school from each province will battle it out for a chance to advance to the finals, scheduled for September 2024.

The 2024 Old Mutual High School Quiz promises to be a grand spectacle, showcasing the intellectual prowess of Zimbabwe's brightest young minds. Students and schools across the nation eagerly await the opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge, make a mark in the history of this prestigious event.
