MARSHALL Munetsi marked his return to Molineux in style, firing home the opening goal of the new EFL Championship campaign as Wolverhampton Wanderers rescued a 2-2 draw against Blackburn Rovers in their dramatic curtain-raiser that has just finished.
The Warriors midfielder, who spent the second half of last campaign on loan at French side Paris FC, scored the historic goal in the 19th minute. Sent cleanly through on goal by Lopez, Munetsi kept his composure to slot a cool finish past the Blackburn goalkeeper.
Sean McLoughlin rose highest to head Blackburn level midway through the first half, before Gudjohnsen poked home from close range to send the visitors in front three minutes into the second half.
Just as it appeared Wolves would start life back in the second tier with a disappointing defeat, a dramatic twist arrived in stoppage time. Wolves were awarded a penalty, and Raul Jimenez stepped up to dispatch it and salvage a vital point for the hosts.
Munetsi was not the only returning loanee involved for the home side.
His compatriot Tawanda Chirewa, also back at Molineux after spending time away last term, entered the fray late in the game.
The midfielder played the final 12 minutes, offering supporters encouraging flashes of brilliance.
Both Munetsi and Chirewa are expected to feature heavily next month for the Warriors when Zimbabwe begins its campaign in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
