ZIMBABWE head coach Justin Sammons believes the experience of former Test captains Craig Ervine, Brendan Taylor and Graeme Cremer to play a key advisory role to debutant Test captain Richard Ngarava as the Chevrons prepare to face Bangladesh in a one-off Test at Harare Sports Club tomorrow.
The trio, who have all captained Zimbabwe in the longest format, are part of a squad led by newly appointed Test and One Day International captain Richard Ngarava.
He is deputised by Brian Bennett in both formats.
Sammons said the blend of youth and experience has created a positive environment within the squad, with the three senior players providing valuable leadership on and off the field.
“There is a nice blend of youth with experience,” Sammons told NewsDay Sport.
“I think those three men that you’ve mentioned there, Craig Ervine, Brendan Taylor and Graeme Cremer, the great thing about those three guys is they’re all just such good human beings, and they add so much to the team space.”
Sammons believes the presence of experienced campaigners such as Ervine, Taylor and Cremer will help ease the transition for the new captain while guiding the younger members of the squad.
The one-off Test presents Zimbabwe with an opportunity to build momentum and register a positive result on home soil against a Bangladesh side arriving with considerable international experience.
