VETERAN Zimbabwe leg-spinner Graeme Cremer says he is ready to make his mark at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, co-hosted by Sri Lanka and India, confident that his experience will be pivotal for the national team.
The spin maestro, in scintillating form in domestic cricket, believes he has proved his worth.
“I feel like I'm at the peak of my game, and I'm ready to take on the best in the world,” Cremer told NewsDay Sport.
He described his selection in the World Cup as a "dream come true".
"I feel I have proved that in our domestic cricket, and the World Cup being in Sri Lanka will be spinner-friendly, which will suit me. I hope to once again lead the bowling unit and win games for Zimbabwe.”
Cremer acknowledged the personal sacrifices involved, saying, “Being away from the wife and kids is tough, but it is a sacrifice we are willing to make to give back to Zimbabwe cricket, and end my legacy on a high.”
His experience and expertise have been invaluable to his domestic team, Takashinga 1, and he will be looking to bring that same level of professionalism to the national team. With his skill and ability to read the game, he certainly is a valuable asset to any team.
With Sri Lanka's conditions expected to favour spinners, his chances of making the squad were always going to be high.
Zimbabwe Cricket on Friday announced a 15-man squad for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka from February 7 to March 8.
Cremer is set to partner Wellington Masakadza in the spin department, bringing his skill and strategic acumen to a squad blending youthful talent and seasoned campaigners.
Zimbabwe’s batting line-up features Brian Bennett, Tadiwanashe Marumani, Brendan Taylor and star all-rounder Sikandar Raza, who will lead the side.
Zimbabwe have been drawn in Group B, alongside Australia, Ireland, Oman and Sri Lanka. The locals open their campaign against Oman on February 9 in Colombo.
