THE World Fitness Federation (WFF) is set to host their first WFF Midlands Championships at Kwekwe Queens Sports Club on May 13.
Over the years, the sport has seen activities taking place mainly in Harare with other areas missing out, which has hindered its development.
Godwin Mhaka, who was recently elected WFF International Zimbabwe president and All Africa executive member, said they decided to take action for the sport to develop around the country.
He also said the Midlands Championship is in preparation for a major show that is scheduled for the beginning of July.
“We want to develop sport provincially. Our sport is now more based in Harare and the rate of attendance of athletes from other provinces was going down over the years, so as a federation we decided to start to develop the game from the roots. We have our major show of the year which is on 1 July 2023 at Zimbabwe College of Music of Music and is the qualifier for Asia Pacific in Japan, so we are using Midlands Championships as a starter show for our main show in July,” he said.
The show is not exclusively for Midlands-based athletes, but is an open show and everyone from the country will be allowed to compete.
Mhaka said he is expecting a huge turnout of athletes a good number have expressed interest.
He said excelling athletes will be rewarded with medals, certificates for top six winners and cash prizes for the top three winners of the competition.
“We are expecting a high turnout; athletes from all provinces are so excited about this show, so we are expecting over 50 athletes to take part. We have so far arranged the trophies and medals for the top six athletes and cash prizes for the top three winners. On registration, all athletes to register will get T-shirts and appreciation certificates,” he said.
Athletes will be competing in Junior Men Body building up to 23, Senior Men Bodybuilding, Men Beach Model, Men Sports Model, Men Jean Model, Women Bikini Model and Women Sports Model categories.
