Murimba targets PSL Golden Boot

Delic Murimba

SOCCER Stars finalist and Ngezi Platinum Stars striker Delic Murimba is looking to win the Premier Soccer League Golden Boot next season after finishing third on the goal-scoring list behind winner William Manondo and Walter Musona.

Manondo finished the season with 17 goals while Manondo managed 14 with Murimba scoring 13 in the just-ended season.

But a consolation for Murimba is that he was the top scorer for his Mhondoro-Ngezi based side while his goals were also enough to get him among the country’s best 11 footballers.

And now the former Triangle FC forward is aiming to become the top goal scorer in the top-flight league next season.

“I am happy to win the golden boot at a club for the first time since I started playing top-flight football. It pushes me to work harder ahead of next season so that I can push for a PSL golden boot and to be chosen among the Soccer Stars again,” Murimba said.

In all fairness the star striker blew hot and cold in the 2021-22 league season but seemed to strike the right chord towards the end of the campaign and scored four goals in one match when Ngezi Platinum hammered relegated WhaWha 5-0 at Baobab in the final match.

The 23-year-old striker is the first to admit that he could have scored more goals last season.

“With the number of chances that I got during matches I know I should have scored more goals than the 13 than I managed. But football being football sometimes you score difficult chances and miss easy ones. But overall I am happy that I managed to reach double figures

“To be among the Soccer Stars this season is a bonus for me. I was not as consistent as I would have wanted to be throughout the season but I did finish the season strong so I am happy with the recognition. Next year I expect to do more than what I have done this season,” he said.

After a two-week trial stint at South African side Stellenbosch back in 2019, Murimba still harbours dreams of playing outside the country.

“Every player wishes to play outside the country especially in Europe if an opportunity arises. It’s also my wish that one day I will be able to further my career outside our borders,” he said.

Murimba’s professional career began in Hwange where he played for Chipangano in the Southern Region Division 1 before Triangle FC captured his signature.

It was early last year that Murimba joined Ngezi Platinum Stars.

Growing up as an athletic kid, football just came naturally for Murimba.

“I think football was an inborn thing for me. I have always been an athlete since I was very young, doing athletics and playing football at school so I just continued along that path. I am happy I chose a career that I love and enjoy,” Murimba said.
