A LOCAL book publishing company, Essentials Books Publishing, will in May release an anthology, which contains work by 25 poets, titled Essential Verses.

Essentials Book Publishing’s editor-in chief Aleck Kaposa told Standard Style that the book would be released on May 31.

“The book is going to be released on May 31, 2022 and published by our company, Essentials Books Publishing Company,” Kaposa said.

“It is titled Essentials Verses and we have 25 different poets.

“Some of the poets are Tracy Masocha, Hleko Vuma, Shadreck Muzadzi, Norlan Makwarimba, Joseph Shoko, Francis Muzofa and myself, among others.”

Kaposa said Essentials Verses is a powerful and moving anthology of poems.

“Essential Verses is powerful and moving that conveys lived and the imagined experiences as an artistic response to the goings on in the poet’s surroundings and circumstances,” he said.

“It’s also a testimony that Zimbabwe has talented and serious poets.”

Kaposa, an internationally-acclaimed author’s writing is inspired by experience he got from staying at a farm.

“I started writing when l was at Ellis Robins High school from O’ Level up to A’ Level,” he said.

“I used to write extensively for the school magazine which l also edited and got national prizes and awards.”

A 2008 National Arts Merit Award nominee, Kaposa founded his book publishing company Essential Books Publishing Company in 2012.

In 2013 the company published a short story anthology titled A Bag of Memories followed by three in 2017 titled The Magician, There Was a Fly and The Big Yellow Train.

“The book The Magician also got a nomination for a Nama Award in 2018,” Kaposa said.

Other books published by essential Books Publishing Company that got accolades at Nama included Kuku Wins the President’s Clean Environment Award in 2020 and Auntie Mazvita by Tinashe Muchuri which was nominated for Nama award this year 2022.

“So far Essentials Books Publishing Company has published one book, The Cursing Tortoise, written by Onald Gwiriri which has won a Nama gong,” Kaposa said.

“In 2018-2020 my poetry featured on different radio and television including Heart and Soul TV, ZiFM and Spot FM,” he said.
