Godolude to mark birthday with star-studded rhumba fusion concert

Godolude is set to celebrate his birthday in style with a genre-blending musical extravaganza that promises to unite rhumba, Maskandi and Amapiano fans in one unforgettable night.

The rhumba musician, born Mandlenkosi Mpofu, is keeping one detail under wraps — his age.

“I cannot reveal my age because that is part of the surprise. People will have to buy a ticket if they want to find out,” he said with a laugh.

The celebration will take place on August 8 at Esibayeni in Bulawayo’s Mpopoma suburb and will feature performances by Zinjaziyaluma, Fab G and other artistes.

Godolude said the event is aimed at showcasing the versatility of rhumba while creating a platform that celebrates different musical genres.

“We want to elevate the rhumba music genre by putting together energetic performances and a clash of Maskandi, rhumba and Amapiano,” he said.

He described the event as a significant upgrade from a similar birthday celebration he hosted in South Africa years ago.

“This one is more special — more people, more professional, and I am now better known,” he said.

Having spent 16 years in the music industry, Godolude has released eight solo projects and built a loyal following through his energetic stage performances and popular songs.

Hits such as Omalayitsha, Suk’emva Kwami, Ezikini Yothando and Ngakhonjwa have helped establish him as one of Zimbabwe’s leading rhumba artistes.

His latest single, Bhambadzi, featuring Mawaya and his guitarist, is already gaining traction ahead of the concert.

“Everything about Godolude is linked to my music journey because music is my life,” he said.

“This celebration is also a chance for me to measure the love and support I receive from my fans.”

With a diverse line-up and an emphasis on musical collaboration, the birthday concert is expected to celebrate not only Godolude’s personal milestone, but also the enduring appeal of rhumba and the spirit of unity within Zimbabwe’s music industry.
