A Ntabazinduna man who spent weeks in custody over a criminal case he insists he knew nothing about has credited traditional healer Gogo Chihoro's intervention after a magistrate acquitted him, ruling that the State had failed to present sufficient evidence.
Bongani Nyathi said he had resigned himself to serving a prison sentence before what he described as an unexpected turn of events secured his freedom.
"I had been in and out of court for a crime I did not commit. Three weeks ago the magistrate remanded me in custody.
"Looking back, I now see that being remanded was a blessing in disguise," Nyathi told congregants during a weekend church service.
He said it was while in custody that he befriended a prison officer who advised him to seek Gogo Chihoro's assistance.
"I narrated my story to one of the prison guards. He told me about Gogo Chihoro and I asked my wife to visit her on my behalf because I was still in prison. She went last Saturday," he said.
According to Nyathi, when he returned to court the magistrate ruled that the State's evidence was not strong enough and ordered his release.
"I am still in shock. The same magistrate said the evidence was not strong enough and declared me a free man."

Nyathi said he had already accepted that he would be imprisoned before the court's decision.
"I had already declared myself a jailbird even before sentencing. Everything was dark before me. I don't know how that prison guard came into my life with such helpful advice," he said.
He added: I consider myself a victorious victim because of Gogo Chihoro."
Nyathi's testimony adds to a growing number of accounts from people who have publicly attributed life-changing experiences to Gogo Chihoro's spiritual intervention.
In recent weeks, the Harare-based traditional healer has drawn attention for expanding her services beyond business-related consultations to include spiritual protection, with clients sharing testimonies ranging from alleged deliverance from spiritual disturbances to reported improvements in their personal and business lives.
